UOVO

The UOVO was conceived and first prototyped during ITP 326 - Product Design and Development. I had just switched my major from business to Industrial Technology, and bought my very own 3D printer over summer. I was eager to prove myself to my peers, and to myself. ITP 326 was rooted in copious ideation, user surveys and ethnographic research. The first prototype that I iterated for this class was in form only. It had little bearings that allowed the dimmer knobs to turn.

The following quarter I found myself enrolled in ITP 371 - Supply Chain Management in Manufacturing and Services. And I needed a product to source. I decided the revisit the UOVO, and make it functional. My BOM was orders of magnitude larger than it needed to be, and sleep was evasive. But I made it work! The final design included spectrum targeted grow lights, cool/warm adjustable white lights, a water-pump, drip emitters and potentiometers.

This project was a good opportunity concept ideation and sketching, and learning to sell the idea behind the sketch. I was on a team of 3 other students, and I had an honest professor. I realized that no level of artistic persuasion is a substitute for soft skills, clear communication, listening and patience.

60 second Twitter scholarship video that I filmed and edited. I did not win, but learned a lot about story telling.
